Service Beyond the Plate

As the creators of Hoodspitality and New York favorite’s Beatstro, Bronx Drafthouse, Bricks & Hops Beer Garden and Bodega Social, we faced the stark reality of all our restaurants being forced to close as the 2020 shutdown loomed. In response, we swiftly pivoted, redirecting our existing inventory to support our first responders. This not only prevented any wastage, but also aimed to preserve as many jobs as possible. We were not only able to retain our staff, but also expand our local workforce, while simultaneously providing delicious prepared meals to those most in need. This initiative sparked collaborative efforts with other local community-based organizations, magnifying our collective impact and advancing our mission of serving the Bronx with hope and resilience. Out of a catastrophic circumstance, Surplate was born, a local catering company focused on nourishing New Yorkers.
